Race and racism form an integral part of discourses on the structural conditionality of inequalities. While such discussions have shed much light on contemporary paradigms of race and racism, the pre-modern origins of racial thought have remained the exception. But what relevance do the Middle Ages have for our thinking and acting today? What do we gain from dealing with pre-modern forms of racism?
