Research by the Sea

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities' key fields of research include the cultures of the Baltic region and Romanticism.

The research of the Faculty of Arts and Humanities covers the areas of cultural history, cultural studies, digitality, linguistics and education, with particular expertise and research focus on the cultures of the Baltic Sea region and Romanticism.

The cultures of the Baltic Sea region are being researched in four major collaborative projects (FragTrans, Research Centre for Manors, Grenzregime [de], Saints and Heroes) and an international research training group (Baltic Peripeties). This research is bundled in the university-wide Interdisciplinary Center for Baltic Sea Region Research (IFZO). The focus on Romanticism includes the organization of academic and public events such as the annual conference of the Friedrich Schlegel Society in 2023 and the Caspar David Friedrich anniversary in 2024 in Greifswald.

The Faculty of Arts and Humanities is significantly involved in the university key field of research “Cultures of the Baltic Sea Region ” as well as in the profile areas “Culture and Practice of Digital Action [de]” and “Think rural!”.
