Am Historischen Institut der Philosophischen Fakultät der Universität Greifswald am Interdisziplinären Forschungszentrums Ostseeraum (IFZO) ist vorbehaltlich der Mittelbereitstellung voraussichtlich zum 01.07.2023 eine Stelle als vollzeitbeschäftigte*r
wissenschaftliche*r Mitarbeiter*in
befristet für die Dauer von zwei Jahren zu besetzen. Die Stelle ist teilzeitgeeignet. Die Vergütung erfolgt nach Entgeltgruppe 13 TV-L Wissenschaft.
Die Stelle ist im IFZO-Teilprojekt „Geteiltes Erbe: Kanonisierung, Konfliktbehaftete Erbschaften, Kulturlandschaften und Präsentation des kulturellen Erbes im Ostseeraum“ im Arbeitspaket „Ungewolltes und konfliktbehaftetes Erbe“ verankert. Dieses Arbeitspaket untersucht Objekte, Praktiken und Diskurse, welche zum Infragestellen und/oder der Zurückweisung des Erbes führt. Das Unterprojekt des Arbeitspakets „Denkmalstürze“ zielt darauf ab, öffentliche Diskurse über Erinnerungsgegenstände und kulturelles Erbe zu untersuchen, darunter auch die Zerstörung von Denkmälern und/oder Konflikte bezüglich Rückführung und Entschädigung.
Die hier vorgestellte Stelle ist dem Lehrstuhl für Nordische Geschichte (Prof. Dr. Cordelia Heß) zugeordnet. Dieser Lehrstuhl ist der Geschichte und Kultur Skandinaviens und Finnlands vom Mittelalter bis zur Gegenwart gewidmet.

Postdoctoral Research Associate - International Research Training Group 2560 “Baltic Peripeties" 25/E19

At the University of Greifswald’s International Research Training Group 2560 “Baltic Peripeties. Narratives of Reformations, Revolutions and Catastrophes” at the Faculty of Arts and Humanities, there is a job vacancy expected to be available from 1 April 2026, limited to a period of two years, for a full-time
Postdoctoral Research Associate.
Payment will be made according to pay group 13 TV-L Wissenschaft. The post is also suitable for part-time employment.
The researcher independently will pursue a research project that engages with current developments in the Baltic Sea Region from the perspectives of comparative politics or public opinion. The position serves qualification in the second academic phase.
The researcher will work on their project embedded in the International Research Training Group “Baltic Peripeties”. This is an interdisciplinary network including researchers at all career stages from the fields of political science, history, literary and media studies, linguistics, and philosophy at the University of Greifswald, the University of Tartu, and NTNU Trondheim. Focusing for instance on political turning points and crises, the network studies narratives of change in the Baltic Sea region. For further information see https://peripeties.uni-greifswald.de/. The research project should:
- Link to one or more of the following research subjects: parties, parliaments, governments, elections, voters, representation, political attitudes, public opinion, or European integration
- Contribute to an enhanced understanding of how political landscapes in the Baltic Sea region are changing, either gradually or through more abrupt changes
- Be empirical in nature, preferably using a quantitative or mixed methods approach
- Study either the Baltic Sea region as a whole or one or more countries in the region
Job description:
- Actively engage in the activities of the network, including presentations of their project at all three universities, attendance of lectures, co-organisation of interdisciplinary events, co-organisation of and participation in reading groups and skill training sessions in Greifswald
- Present their work at international conferences, for which funding may be provided, and publish the output of their project in internationally recognised peer-reviewed journals
- Research stays in Tartu and/or Trondheim are strongly encouraged and will be funded by the IRTG for up to four months
- Exchange and collaboration between the successful applicant and Piret Ehin (University of Tartu), Corinna Kroeber (University of Greifswald), and/or Jochen Müller (University of Greifswald), who represent Political Science in the Supervisory Board of the International Research Training Group, is encouraged
- The position serves qualification in the second academic phase; tasks will be assigned that are conducive to the realisation of postdoctoral qualifications (Habilitation or equivalent)
Job requirements:
- A successfully completed doctorate (PhD) in Political Science or a related field on commencement of employment
- An envisioned research project that fits the above-mentioned criteria
- Excellent knowledge of research methods relevant to the social sciences (quantitative and/or qualitative) and their application
- Excellent English language skills (C1)
Desirable:
- Initial academic publications or publication projects that are at a verifiable advanced stage
- A research focus that fits the research project
- Analytical thinking, experience in working in international environments, and ability to work in a team
