Until 10th July, the travelling exhibition “Viking Gold. Treasure politics since 1800” will be on display at Midgard Vikingsenter in Borre, Norway. This is the second stop on its tour around the Baltic Sea, which will take it to Visby in July and Greifswald in October. Treasure politics in the early Middle Ages become tangible in Borre, a centre of power in the Viking Age, of which numerous burial mounds near the museum still bear witness. After all, one of the exhibition protagonists, the so-called Hoen treasure, was found in the region. But, even a millennium later, the place was politically charged: in the 1940s, the Norwegian National Socialists misused the Viking Age burial mounds as a backdrop for their meetings. However, you don't have to travel to Norway to see the exhibition - it is also available online:  (www.vikinggold.org). News and updates about the tour can be followed on the Instagram channel @vikinggold_treasurepolitics.
