As part of the "Conference of The Renaissance Society of America" in Dublin, at the end of March, Antje Kempe from the Cluster The Topicality of Cultural Heritage will give a lecture entitled: Gardens at the Seashore: Perspectives and Limitations of Water Landscapes.
Water shaped landscape: the natural as well as the human-made, particularly early modern gardens. Comparing two gardens situated on the sea in Northern Europe, Drottnigholm near Stockholm, and Peterhof/Petrodvorca, the “eastern Versailles” near St. Petersburg, this paper considers littoral spaces not only as architectural manifestations, but also as complex environments and cultural spaces.
