The 13th Future Forum on Rural Development took place on 22 and 23 January in Berlin. Over 1,200 stakeholders discussed the creation of equal living conditions in urban and rural areas. Various expert forums dealt with the question of how the Common Agricultural Policy can contribute to this goal and at the same time shape the development of rural areas in a sustainable way. Representatives of the EU Commission and the Federal Ministry of Agriculture pointed out that one of the main focuses of the new agricultural funding period is the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions - in agriculture and in rural areas as a whole. Stefan Ewert took part in the discussions as an IFZO PostDoc, which on the one hand touched on IFZO's research area rural areas, but on the other hand are also directly relevant for research in the sustainability cluster. The Common Agricultural Policy of the EU is a decisive factor in the transformation of the Baltic Sea Region into a sustainable region.
